Welcome to my blog “I Love Crete”! If you’re a fan of this beautiful island or planning a trip, you’ve come to the right place.

Here I’ll take you on a journey through the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Crete.

Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, is a place steeped in history and mythology. The island was home to the Minoan civilization, one of the oldest in Europe, which flourished around 2000 BC. You can still see the remains of the Minoan palaces at Knossos and Phaistos, and they are truly spectacular. Imagine walking through the same palace that King Minos himself once walked!

But Crete isn’t just about ancient history. The island is also home to incredible natural beauty, from its miles of sandy beaches to its rugged mountains. Whether you’re a beach lover or a hiker, you’ll find plenty to explore here. Take a dip in the crystal clear waters of Elafonisi or hike the Samaria Gorge for an unforgettable experience.

When it comes to food, you’re in for a real treat. The local cuisine is hearty, delicious and diverse. You’ll want to try the island’s traditional dishes like dakos, moussaka, and souvlaki, washed down with some of the island’s famous raki.

Additionally, the island’s cities and towns are worth visiting. The capital city of Heraklion is home to the magnificent Palace of Knossos, while the port city of Chania boasts a charming Venetian old town. And, don’t miss the picturesque Rethymno.
